Serving the cause
Each of our trustees is a volunteer. Each is committed to establishing Zamzam Foundation UK as a bridge between Zamzam’s transformational projects across Somalia and donors in the UK who want to help build a brighter future for all Somalis.
Our board of trustees meet at least four times a year and are responsible for:
- Developing and implementing ZZF UK’s strategy, policies and plans
- Overseeing our governance and making sure we meet our regulatory requirements as a charity
- Making appointments to the small ZZF UK team and evaluating performance.
Tahir Tahir (Chair)
Tahir was born in Barawa, capital of Somalia’s South West state. He has been a UK citizen for over 30 years, and lives in London.
Tahir has served in the UK education sector for more than three decades, including over 15 years working for a leading Local Education Authority in East London. During this period, he has sought to improve the prospects of young people from ethnic minorities by providing information, advice and guidance to hard-to-reach communities and by developing multilingual digital resources.
Tahir’s successes as a teacher trainer, public speaker, motivator and mentor for young people have included guiding pupils to become medical doctors and build careers in a range of other professional disciplines. He has a degree in Linguistics from the National University of Somalia and is a qualified careers advisor. His former work included a position as assistant lecturer at the faculty of language at the National University.
Dr Hyder Tahir
Dr Hyder Tahir is a UK citizen, born in the UK to Somali parents, and lives in Essex. He has a keen interest in education, holds a postgraduate qualification in surgical education, and is actively involved in training the next generation of medical professionals.
Hyder contributes to the field of medical education by teaching and mentoring medical students and young doctors, delivering motivational speeches to secondary-school students, and lecturing on anatomy at a major London university – all alongside his full-time work as a trauma and orthopaedics registrar in the east of England.
As a member of our board of trustees, Hyder is committed to leveraging his expertise and experience to make a meaningful impact, particularly in improving educational and professional opportunities for underserved communities in his ancestral homeland of Somalia. Through his dedication to his profession and to our charitable work, he wishes to demonstrate a deep commitment to ‘giving back’ to others and fostering positive change.
Abdullahi Warsame
Abdullahi was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. He is a UK citizen who has resided in the UK since 2003, and lives in north-west London.
Abdullahi is passionate about making a positive impact in education and community services. Before moving to the UK, he spent 15 years working as a head teacher in various Somali primary and secondary schools. He was responsible both for leading schools and managing staff and for working closely with students and their families to ensure that all pupils received a good education.
Holding a degree in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, Abdullahi was able to use the knowledge and experience gained from his studies to become a direct sales associate for Shifo, a private company distributing veterinary medicines to businesses across Somalia. He delivered training to ensure that products were used effectively and efficiently, providing hands-on guidance in product handling, safety measures and customer service.
Since moving to the UK, he was worked in various community service roles, including supplementary teaching – especially within Somali communities. He has worked on educational programmes aimed at helping Somali children improve their academic skills, and his support for his students has included after-school tutoring, extra-curricular activities, and language support. He aims to provide his students with a better experience of education, and to help young people and their families to access local resources.
He is self-employed, and enjoys working on his own terms.
