Build a brighter future for all Somalis

Zamzam Foundation UK has five Brighter Futures funds to which donors can contribute – so called because through them we are supporting efforts to build a brighter future for all Somalis. By donating to one or more of these funds you can help us to make a lasting difference in the lives of Somalia’s poorest people.

Our health and nutrition fund helps save lives threatened by malnutrition and deadly diseases, provides high-quality health services, and educates people to protect their families from harm.

Our livelihoods fund provides farmers with seeds, tools and livestock and enables us to set up small businesses for women and young people – including shops, tailoring, and tuc-tuc taxis.

Our clean water fund enables Zamzam water and sanitation teams to instal and maintain vital boreholes and wells, build latrines, and deliver hygiene awareness training to prevent disease.

Our education fund supports the building and running of schools, provision of high-quality teaching materials, training for teachers, and vocational training to help young people find employment.

Our peacebuilding fund brings communities together to resolve local conflicts, focusing not on issues that divide people but on solving the challenges of weak infrastructure and poor public services they have in common.

We rely on your donations to these Zamzam UK funds to help us expand the work Zamzam Foundation is doing across Somalia to protect and strengthen vulnerable families and empower women and young people to lift themselves out of poverty:

  •  A £20 donation to our education fund covers the cost of educating a child for a month in a Zamzam-run primary school.
  •  A £13 donation to our health and nutrition fund provides specialist maternity care and support for a young mother – before, during and after childbirth.
  • Through a £30 donation to our livelihoods fund you can provide a farmer with the seeds and tools he or she needs to grow crops, providing food for families and a chance to earn an income.
  •  Through a £26 donation to our clean water fund you can provide a family with clean water for life, through a solar-powered community borehole that pumps water from deep below ground.
  •  A £32 donation to our peacebuilding fund covers the cost of a young person in a rural area participating in cultural activities to reduce conflict and promote peace.

Our website offers the choice of making a one-off donation or becoming a regular giver – we value whatever support you can give. Please consider making a monthly donation if you can, as regular giving provides Zamzam Foundation UK with a steady income so that we can get behind Zamzam Foundation in Somalia in its efforts to support the communities it serves all year round.

Nimco Cali Ibraahim’s story shows what a positive difference you can make when you donate to our water projects in Somalia through Zamzam Foundation UK. This is typical of the kind of transformational impact you can have by supporting any of our Brighter Futures funds.

Getting safe water on tap in her home village in Lower Shabelle region is saving Nimco a lot of time every day, thanks to the new borehole Zamzam provided.

“We used to walk for miles in search of clean water, which required a lot of effort and energy,” the 34-year-old explains. “This borehole has profoundly changed our lives, and the lives of everyone in our village.”

Now Nimco is hoping to find work to supplement her family’s earnings – something she did not have time for before. More income will help feed her children and make healthcare and education more affordable.
