Zamzam Foundation UK is proud that Zamzam Foundation in Somalia is already working with a wide range of partners to fulfil its vital mission. We want to build new partnerships in the UK to enhance this work.

Zamzam Foundation’s established network of nearly 50 partners in Somalia include the Federal Government of Somalia and local authorities within the country, leading UN agencies, major institutional donors, and lots of non-government organisations – global, regional, national and local.

We sincerely thank all our partners, funders and supporters for the enormous contribution they make to helping us to address the impact of poverty in Somalia and to work for positive and sustainable change in the lives of the country’s most vulnerable people. Without their commitment and wide-ranging support, our transformational work across Somalia would simply not be possible.

Partnership is pivotal in delivering an effective response to Somalia’s many challenges. Zamzam Foundation in Somalia is a member of the Somalia NGO Consortium, working closely with UN bodies and other aid agencies in a coordinated way to save and change lives. Its top ten donors include partners from the Middle East, Turkey, Europe, Australia and North America.

Zamzam Foundation UK wants to enhance the potential for effective partnership working by developing new partnerships with organisations in the UK.

The Building Resilient Communities in Somalia (BRCIS) programme in which Zamzam Foundation in Somalia is participating is providing wide-ranging support to over a million vulnerable people across 20 districts through a variety of elements including:

Crisis early warning systems, self-help groups and better market access for farmers
Climate-resilient water interventions
Measures to strengthen co-operatives
Soil and water conservation work
Regeneration of grazing land.

There has often been a lot of talk about ‘localisation’ in the global aid community but relatively little action. In 2016 donors pledged through the Grand Bargain agreement to spend 25 per cent of global aid budgets on local organisations by 2020 and yet by 2021 the real amount reaching local groups was still only 2.1 per cent.

We applaud donors like the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which is ensuring that 43 per cent of its support for BRCIS is being channelled through Somali organisations like Zamzam.
