Urgent Appeal – keep our lifesaving health centres open
Right now, two Zamzam health centres in rural Somalia – serving 51,000 people from 94 remote villages – are on the brink of closure.
If these centres close, pregnant women will be left to give birth at home without skilled help. Severely malnourished children will lose access to treatment. Families will have nowhere to go for vaccines, medicines, or urgent care.
We urgently need to raise £50,000 to keep these centres open.

Providing lifesaving care
For nearly a decade, Zamzam’s Qalimow and Gololey health centres have been a lifeline in an area ravaged by conflict, climate change and chronic lack of healthcare.
Our dedicated midwives, nurses and community volunteers provide:
- Professional maternity care for pregnant and breastfeeding women
- A safe, hygienic place to give birth, with trained midwives
- Screening and treatment for severe acute malnutrition in mothers and children
- Treatment and referral for deadly diseases such as cholera, malaria and TB
- Vaccinations that protect children from major childhood diseases

Risk of closure
In just the first 8 months of this year, these two centres provided:
- Prenatal and postnatal care for 4,896 women
- Vaccinations for 4,032 children under five and 1,160 pregnant and breastfeeding women
- Malnutrition screening and treatment for 9,119 people
- Safer, more hygienic births for 1,416 mothers – that’s more than five births every single day
All of this is now at risk because of devastating international aid cuts that have already shut down hospitals and nutrition centres across Somalia. Without new funding, Qalimow and Gololey could close soon.
