The latest annual report for Zamzam Foundation UK, published on our website on January 18, tells the story of how an established but relatively dormant UK registered charity called the Somali Relief and Development Forum (SRDF) is being revived and rejuvenated through an innovative partnership with Somalia’s biggest indigenous aid organisation.
Zamzam Foundation, established in 1992, is one of Somalia’s most respected charities. A partnership agreement signed by the trustees of Zamzam Foundation and those of SRDF, a UK registered charity since 2011, enabled SRDF to relaunch itself as Zamzam Foundation UK in November 2024.
The partnership means that Zamzam Foundation can reach out to UK Somalis to raise awareness and raise funds, while SRDF has a dynamic implementing partner on the ground in Somalia to make effective and impactful use of funds raised from the UK public.

The new annual report covers the financial year for Zamzam Foundation UK/SRDF, which runs from July to June. In July 2024-June 2025, Zamzam Foundation UK launched a new website and social media accounts. It also started building partnerships with key UK community organisations and mosques, securing increasing support for Zamzam Foundation’s transformative programmes in Somalia.
To support this work, Zamzam UK invested in modest staff capacity to develop marketing and fundraising plans, and to manage donor engagement. The charity also created a suite of new communications materials, including launch videos, booklets and banners, to introduce its work to the UK Somali community.
The annual report captures how ZFUK secured the domain www.zamzamfoundation.org.uk and commissioned specialist agencies to design and build a new website plus social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube. These platforms are now being used to share updates, tell stories, and connect supporters with the charity’s work.
Digital fundraising campaigns during Ramadan, and in the build-up to Eid Al-Adha, helped to raise awareness and attract donations. A small television advertising campaign on Universal TV and the Islam Channel raised the charity’s profile and expanded its reach across the UK and beyond.
Our ‘relaunch’ as Zamzam Foundation UK was celebrated at a community event at East London Mosque in February 2025. The launch brought together humanitarian partners, community leaders and other supporters for a panel discussion on ‘Building Resilience for All Somalis’ – a topic chosen to highlight the tough challenges Somalia faces because of climate change and conflict.
As Zamzam UK continues to grow in 2026, our aim is to deepen our engagement with UK supporters and expand our fundraising reach. We are focused on building long-term support for programmes in Somalia, including education, orphan sponsorship, livelihoods, healthcare, and community peacebuilding.
