Who should pay zakat?
As one of the five pillars of Islam, zakat is a religious obligation for all Muslims with a certain level of wealth.

Muslims are expected to pay zakat to redistribute wealth to those less fortunate if they have reached the age of puberty, are of sound mind, and have been above the qualifying wealth threshold for at least one full lunar year. The minimum amount of wealth required, known as nisab, can be calculated in your local currency based on the equivalent cost of a certain weight of gold or silver prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver.
All you need to do to understand whether your wealth exceeds the nisab threshold is check the monetary value of the specified weights of gold and silver in your local currency on the exchange market.
